In the Communist Manifesto, family stands in the way of the core goals of Communism. Read the primary understanding of the family as stated in the Communist Manifesto:

“Abolition of the family! Even the most radical flare up at this infamous proposal of the Communists. On what foundation is the present family, the bourgeois family, based? On capital, on private gain. In its completely developed form this family exists only among the bourgeoisie. But this state of things finds its complement in the practical absence of the family among the proletarians, and in public prostitution. The bourgeois family will vanish as a matter of course when its complement vanishes, and both will vanish with the vanishing of capital. Do you charge us with wanting to stop the exploitation of children by their parents? To this crime we plead guilty. But, you will say, we destroy the most hallowed of relations, when we replace home education by social. And your education! Is not that also social, and determined by the social conditions under which you educate, by the intervention, direct or indirect, of society, by means of schools, etc.? The Communists have not invented the intervention of society in education; they do but seek to alter the character of that intervention, and to rescue education from the influence of the ruling class. The bourgeois clap-trap about the family and education, about the hallowed co-relation of parent and child, becomes all the more disgusting, the more, by the action of Modern Industry, all family ties among the proletarians are torn asunder, and their children transformed into simple articles of commerce and instruments of labour. But you Communists would introduce community of women, screams the whole bourgeoisie in chorus. The bourgeois sees in his wife a mere instrument of production.”

The last sentence of this quote seems to be the underpinnings of Communism. “World view” is a fundamentally flawed description of belief systems, for Christianity is not a world view. Christianity points to a God who transcends all world views. However, in this instance, understanding the world view among the Communist is revealing.

Believing your spouse to be an instrument of production is evidence of total depravity. It indicates that your spouse is viewed as a slave who must answer to your every demand. It indicates that your spouse does not have any individual identity or freedom. Worse than this, it indicates that your view of the world is colored by covetousness, avarice and greed.

Such covetousness and depravity are, however, the underpinnings of Communism. Believing that the family must be abolished because they are mere instruments of financial gain plainly reveals the covetousness which exists generally in the world. The answer, however, is not more covetousness. The primary goal of Communism is the abolition of capital, otherwise known as private property or private wealth. Everything belongs to the community or for the social good, or better put, the community longs to own more (covetousness).

Unfortunately, we must consider the motivations of those who are orchestrating such systems, because when we do we discover that organizing communal systems of wealth always results in great corruption. Seeing an opportunity for ill-gotten gains, those who end up controlling “the community” hoard the fruits of your labor for themselves. Thus, Communism has never succeeded for long because it is fundamentally founded on the evil of covetousness, among other evils. There is no righteousness or morality inherent in Communism.

Two of the gravest outcomes of Communism, which are not just theororized but are well documented to have occurred, are insufficient birth rate to replace those who die and promiscuity among unmarried individuals. Denouncing the family necessarily results in fewer children, and this ultimately leads to the decline of society. It is inevitable. Abolishing or discouraging marriage does not address the passions and lustful desires among natural humanity, which leads to promiscuity. Neither situations are address in the Communist Manifesto, except that having children and marrying are both discouraged.

Depraved societies do engage in evil uses of fellow humanity. However, the answer to depravity is not more depravity and more evil. Replacing one set of evil social structures with another does not result in a net benefit. Rather, it will increase evil exponentially. The true answer is to reform society through righteousness and morality. Yet this is the allure of Communism. Its proponents state an evil it seeks to alleviate, all the while hiding the evils of Communism and appealing to the greed and avarice of people.

In Christianity, God has given us certain foundational truths. In Genesis 2:18, God said it is not good for Adam to be alone. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

In Genesis 1:28, God commanded Adam and Eve to be fruitful and multiply as well as to subdue the earth. Psalm 127:3-5, Psalm 8:6-9

God also ordained the sacrament of marriage in Genesis 2:24.

Thus, we know that children are a blessing, marriage is sacred in God’s eyes, and the family was created by God for the purpose of glorifying God and subduing the earth. When Jesus walked the earth, both marriage and children were important to Him. Matthew 19:4-6 and 19:14

Spouses and children were not designed to be mere instruments of production. Children are a necessary outgrowth of a functioning society, or that society will cease to function. One of the best passages in the Bible on the family can be found in Ephesians 5:23 to Ephesians 6:4. Anything we do in the context of marriage, parenting and family must be filtered through the two greatest commandments given by Christ, which are found in Matthew 22:37-40.

Lastly, we know that Jesus Christ does not regard any distinction between male and female. Matthew 22:30 In Christ, all individuals are valuable, meaningful and are created to be known by Him and find their fulfillment through Him. By this, we know that Christ does not endorse using people merely as instruments of production. This is a fundamental contrast between a society built on evil (covetousness, etc.) and a society which functions according to the righteousness of God.
